Your task for this assignment is to immerse yourself in the literature in order to determine what is known regarding the conceptual/theoretical frameworks or theories from nursing and other health sciences that have been used to study your phenomenon of interest within the context of your target population and to critique of the evidence from related research studies. This assignment will move you to a higher-level knowledge and skills in DNP practice and scholarship, as the assignments focus on theory and science that are critical to the knowledge development and translation of science into nursing practice.
This annotated bibliography, although primarily focused on theoretical foundations related to your phenomenon of interest and change issue, will also provide critical knowledge that you can also use for the development of your Doctoral Program Final Project. Your phenomenon of interest could be a disorder or condition (e.g., HIV/AIDS, hypertension, depression, chronic illness, adolescent pregnancy) or a psychosocial or physiological characteristic (e.g., social support, health-related quality of life, resilience, family communication patterns, mother-infant attachment, self-esteem). Your target population could be a cultural group (e.g., Hispanic elders, African American women), a diverse group (e.g., urban/rural Cuban Americans, low-income women), or a vulnerable group (e.g., incarcerated adolescents, sex workers, IV drug abusers, severely mentally ill adults).
Your DNP project will focus on a change that impacts health care outcomes with consideration of your target population. Therefore, you are to identify within your clinical area a problem or concern related to your specific patient population and identify a needed change. As a DNP, you are an agent of change.
Provide an introduction to the clinical problem or concern you have identified in your specific patient population, including your perceived need for change in practice and the rationale for such change. In this introduction use references to present the incidence, prevalence, and significance of this clinical problem.
Document your computerized literature search focused on your clinical problem or change need related to your specific target population. Search for research studies which use a conceptual framework or theory. Identify keywords or combined keywords used, databases searched, limits to search (i.e. English language, year, full text), number of articles retrieved, and rationale for selection of 4 relevant articles.
Write an annotated bibliography for each of the 3 research studies. Note: Strictly adhere to the following format and outline all components required in the subquestion below.
First, write a complete reference for each of 3 articles in strict APA format.
Provide a summary of each research article including purpose of the study, significance of the problem, problem statement/hypotheses, conceptual framework or theory used and how the conceptual framework or theory guided the study, research design, sample, methods (instrumentation and analysis of data if a quantitative study or how the conceptual framework or theory-guided a descriptive qualitative study), study results/findings, conclusion of whether the conceptual framework or theory was supported or refuted by the study, and implications for future theory development, research and clinical practice.
For each research article, write a concluding statement regarding support or refutation of the conceptual framework or theory used in the study.
Provide a summary paragraph that references the three research studies and conceptual frameworks used to study your phenomenon of interest and the value of theory in guiding research.
Please make sure to follow APA Format, with no typographical errors and proper grammar.
Example: In HIV prevention research, many studies have used theories like the Health Belief Model or Cognitive Behavioral Group Interventions to guide the study. However, these individually based models have not been found to be particularly effective with poor women of color. Empowerment or relationally based frameworks are more effective with this population, given the gender inequalities that are associated with poverty.
