Prior to the Wellstar event I had learned about professionalism within one of my courses here at PCOM. Professionalism taught me how to compose myself for an internship, a job, or to even become an executive member of a club; it’s very important to show and address professionalism to the interviewee. Professionalism demonstrates what you are capable of accomplishing within this field. As an interviewee they don’t know you, you are being judged whether you are fit for the job within minutes. Prior to this event, I knew how important professionalism would be in helping me land my dream position however, after this event I learned that you could be professional but still not land your dream job due to other important factors.

Yes I learned that you have to be self aware of who you are speaking to and what they are looking for. You must be able to know your weaknesses in order to learn from them. It’s okay to not be perfect, the moral of the story is you need to have the ability to want to achieve. I learned this from Dr. Doshi when he was telling us how he walked into that job not knowing nearly as much as he knows now. It was okay that he didn’t know everything, but he had the motivation to be able to learn as he went along which got him to the position he is at today. This helped me prepare my future as a pharmacist because even after 4 years I will still constantly be learning. With new technologies and studies, I will always have to stay on my toes to be up to date with everything. It’s a learning process but by constantly learning I will be the best pharmacist.

Yes I learned that communication is key to any job. Being able to communicate and create long lasting relationships with your peers will provide you with all the information you need to succeed. Communication will allow you to overcome your fears as well as grow as an individual. I learned about communication by practicing and asking my mentors for advice. My mentors were very adamant about communicating with your peers, this ability will allow you to learn and grow in the field of healthcare. This has helped me better prepare as a pharmacist because being able to communicate with your peers and patients will make me a better pharmacist. Communication is key to any relationship and I cant expect anyone to take me seriously, if I don’t know how to communicate.

After completion of this activity, did you gain what you had hoped based on objectives for the applicable Educational Outcomes? If not, what steps will you take for the next event you participate to ensure this occurs (100 – 200 word count)?

For this event, I gained knowledge on what it’s like to work towards a residency and what I would have to do in order to possibly get a job in this facility. Wellstar is a nationally ranked healthcare system known for its high quality care. The speakers taught us how to make connections and how it’s important to be self-aware of your knowledge. Dr. Doshi taught me that I don’t have to know everything when applying for a competitive position. However, I have to be able to apply myself and want to learn in order to succeed. The skills I learn will need to be applied lifelong as well as constantly learning other skills and material in this profession. This event was extremely helpful in providing feedback on what to do in the future.
